Patricia Moore-Pastides biography
Patricia Moore-Pastides has been an active member of the University of South Carolina and Columbia communities for a decade.
Only days after her husband's appointment as president, she was teaching a Mediterranean cooking class through the University's Cancer Prevention & Control Program -- business as usual for the accomplished cook, writer, and public health professional.
Moore-Pastides has served in a variety of capacities, including:
- Director of secondary prevention, S.C. Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy
- Richland County Health Department supervisor
- Advisory board Member of the University's McKissick Museum
- Board member of Richland County First Steps
- Board member of Trustus Theatre, an eclectic local theatre
- Board member of Sisters of Charity Foundation of S.C.
Before moving to Columbia, Moore-Pastides was executive director of Health Line Corporate Wellness Services in the Sisters of Providence Health System in Holyoke, Mass.; a hospital planner at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mass.; and assistant director of health in New Haven, Conn.
A Connecticut native, she earned a master's of public health at Yale University -- meeting her future husband on the first day of class. She also earned a B.A. degree from the College of Holy Cross.
Harris Pastides and Patricia Moore were married April 27, 1980. They have two children: Katharine, an education specialist at the Getty Villa in Malibu, Calif.; and Andrew, an equity stage actor in New York City.
